WOYWW 577

Still working on the old blogger I expect I will have to change this week or next.

Sunday was an afternoon and night of panic, while I was having Sunday lunch with friends at a restaurant at the bottom of my hill three fire engines and police cars went flying past, this always raises panic in me since our bad fires of a few years ago. Then the water helicopters and fire planes were overhead. I have a range of mountains behind my house and it was these that were on fire.

The helicopters were filling up with water at a lake on the disused golf course.

Come night time it was up to the firefighters on the ground but thanks to their fantastic work the fire was under control in the morning.

Now the reason we are here - my workdesk. This week is has been full of Christmas cards, even put another table up to cope with the amount of work.

All these waiting for inserts, a job I hate.

These are waiting for a few more embellishments that I know I have but cannot find anywhere. Will have to pay a visit to the Chinese shop and buy some more.

Thank you for all the suggestions about the tape leaving brown marks, a friend of mine has the same problem so we have put it down to the weather and humidity here. She suggests we put some washi tape along the inside to cover up.

We have come out of lockdown more or less completely now, but must admit I am worried about when all the holiday makers come from the rest of Spain and other countries.

So that is me for this week, now to link up with Julia at https://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/  our host for WOYWW.

  1. So glad that the fires were quickly under control Ann, it must have been very scary. Hopefully the tourists will be sensible this year. I must admit that I won't be getting on a plane for quite some time to come. Good luck with the Christmas card inserts. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #?

  3. Morning Ani. My goodness. Hearing the sirens and seeing the fire engines flash past must have been very distressing for you. I'm, glad the fire was so soon brought under control. Trust all is now well. You have done incredibly well with all those Christmas cards!! They look great. All the best with the inserts. Hope you don't get swamped with tourists. I braved Llandudno yesterday - first time since the shops opened on Monday - and it was heaving - and that's without any tourists in the area yet!
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

  4. That must have been so scary seeing the fires advance, thank goodness for the amazing fire fighters - hope all is ok now. Isn't it funny why we all have these crafting jobs we detest?! Mine are stuffing things with wadding and sewing up seams on something I've knitted!!

  5. Those fires look pretty savage, I can understand your sense of panic when you saw all the action. So glad that it was ultimately a controllable situation, my word the firefighters have a difficult job don’t they. We had more relaxation of lockdown announced yesterday, and like you, some of it makes me a bit nervous. There’s still a 14 day quarantine after travel rule when returning to the UK, so until Span and UK bash out the agreement, you’ll not see too many Brit holiday makers. But I think once the politics of economics gets going, the agreement will be made and there will be a tide of holiday makers. I expect there are more than a few Spanish businesses suffering from lack of tourism, its a hideous situation isn’t it.
Your desk needed a satellite - girl you really are in the zone! I think the strip of washi tape will go well actually, great idea. Or resort to fine dots of wet glue like the Tombow stuff, that dries uncrinkly . Inserts seem to be the part of card making that most of us dislike!

  6. oo that looks scary !! So glad the fire men were able to get it under control so quickly. My hubby used to be a fireman here in the uk , so never saw anything like that ( thank goodness). Your desk looks extremely busy. I have not started on Christmas yet. Go you !
Fingers crossed that the Summer is good for you and people behave. Have a lovely week. Soojay #17

  7. Goodness, I can understand why you were so anxious about the all the action going on. I'm very glad it's all under control - what a wonderful (and dangerous) job the fire service do.
The cards are looking great and I agree with you on the inserts - they aren't a job I like doing either!
    Have a good week

  8. It is frightening alright when one sees those kind of things going on. Here in Denmark I have not experienced this as I live in Copenhagen, a big city, but I have heard of how it happened in our woods, not nice for sure.

Lovely desk you have this week

Thank you so much for sharing!

  12. Gosh those fires look scary, thank goodness they got them under control. I did one batch of Christmas in Jan and will be back with Christmas projects in July. Easing of lockdown everywhere seems too quick to me even after all this time. Just don't take unnecessary risks I guess. Stay safe, stay well, love n hugs Cindy #11

  13. Hi Ani, I'm glad they managed to get the fire under control! Winter Hill has been alight a few time lately, and sometimes takes days to get under control! Not good at all. If I was totally organised I would be thinking about Christmas cards too, but I'm not totally organised, so will leave it till the last minute as usual. Ooh, I wonder if we are distantly related?? I now have distant relatives in many countries! Have a lovely week and stay safe and well, Heather xx #4

  14. HI Ani, how worrying for you, so glad it was brought under control quickly. I recall seeing the water helicopters a few years ago when we were on holiday in Crete, and they were having wildfire problems. Good job on the cards- I'm with you on inserts, always leave it till I have a pile to do, which probably makes it worse, lol. Stay Safe, Have a lovely week,Hugs, Shaz #5 X

  15. Good morning Ani! I am so glad to hear the fire was finally undercontrol. What a terrible fright. We have been having a lot of heat with no rain and I fear fires too. Luckily today rain is in the forecast and a few more days this week. I am so envious of people that are working on their christmas cards now. You won't be running around like a crazy nut like the rest of us as we scramble to make cards in late November. I hope all will go well with the removal of restrictions. We are doing ours in phases. We are in phase 2 now so some things are opening up. I am still wearing masks, washing my hands and social distancing. I haven't gone to any of the stores that have opened up. Only two visits to Target and our garden center. Taking it slow and waiting to see what happens. Stay well.

  16. Hi Ani. I can imagine seeing the fire must be quite scary guess the hot weather doesn't help. Looks like you've got yourself organised with the Christmas cards. I'm making a few to try and get myself in the mood to make them, hope it works! Happy woyww, Angela x19x

  17. Hi Ani, that must have very scary to see the fires behind you. A huge well done to the firefighters. Still not started any Christmas cards, must do soon. I understand your worries about holiday makers, I am one of them that is worried about going! I had an email saying they have changed the flights and it will be the same day, but they haven’t said when. Stay safe and take care, Angela #33

  18. First of all I can understand you being scared when you saw all the fire engines and such. Not nice to know something like that is going on - glad it was over quickly.
Secondly I can understand your worry about holidaymakers. it worries me in general about folks getting together in large groups - am sure you will be ok though, just keep a close eye on things and do what you feel is safe for you.
Finally, I am the world's worse at knowing I have something but not knowing where it is. Hope you find your embellishments soon.
    Hugs, Neet 8 xx

  19. Very scary fires, Ani, but some astonishing photos of the scene. I am glad they managed to get them under control. I can imagine that the undergrowth must be very dry at present. You certainly are busy with your Christmas cards, and I'm glad you've got the solution now to your problem with the discolouring tape.

  20. Hope the fire gets put out quickly! There's been one in the mountains 40 miles north for 2 weeks. Many evacuated but no homes lost. Seems there's a few of us working on our Christmas cards now! Hope you stay healthy through the reopening of your country!
